The Japanese would of in fact kept on fighting if the decision to drop the bomb had not of been made. The Japanese also kept on trying to push the war on because they had felt that Russia would help them in combating the Americans because Japan had helped Russia before. The Japanese continued on relentlessly in hopes that they would not be defeated. Poremier suzuki of the Japanese military states,-that it was part of a strategy designed to lure American forces closer to the Japanese mainland where they could be trapped and gloriously defeated! (ONeal 55) There were many other instances like this one that supported the ideas that Japanese were in no way designing plans to undergo a peaceful surrender. People who were speaking of peace lives were being threatened, the production of Japanese military was increasing, American civilians were dying in combat each day in the hands of the enemy Japanese soldiers. As these kinds of war time actions grew, America knew it had to put an end to it. The bomb was dropped and on August 14,1945 the Japanese had officially surrendered. What would of happened if the U.S. had not used the atomic bomb?(Oneal 57) No matter how many times it is reported that the Japanese were about to surrender before the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima the facts remain clear they didnt America gave them every opportunity to surrender and they didnt. Who knows how long the war could of dragged on and how many lives were destroyed while waiting around to see if Japan might surrender.
