woman betwenn two worlds The book “Woman Between Two Worlds” is based on the true story of the woman who achieved success in a male dominated career in Ethiopia. A career that is traditionaly been dominated by men throughout Africa, the village chief. Chimante Cumbalo attained the position of Balabat and held it for several years.Chimante was born into a family of priests or to be more specific rainmakers from telsa.Telsa was part of an area that was conqured by the Amhara’s of Ethiopia towards the end of the 19th century. It was merged into the Ethiopian Kingdom.Before this area called Dita was conqured it had a position of King that held great power but after being conqured the position held a religous powers rather than administrative powers. The Ethiopians had added the Balabat ( an intermediary between the Empire and the Dita People). this position was usually held by the king. Chimantes journey to power began when she sttracted the attention of Masa the son of King Mijiola during her sisters marriage.At first her parents did not like the lidea that Chimante marry man who has already had seven wives but were convinced by the kings intermediaries.Chimante bore masa a heir to the thrown. Chimante got into the line of kingship and balabat by proxy King Mijola had disinherited his two older sons , Tilente’s the eldest son did not respect the traditional ways of the Dita , Akirso the second son married a slave woman leaving Masa, the youngest son to take over kingship and the position of balabat.
