One aspect of the museum is its location. Surrounded by beautiful landscape the center can be looked upon as a diamond in the ruff. The Fine Arts Center was featuring the Hechinger’s Collection titled Tools as Art. Some pieces that stood out were Chester Arnold’s Correction 1987. This oil painting shows a hammer taking a nail out of a wooden plank in the midst of black clouds. This piece symbolizes change for the greater good. Vladimir Salamun’s Siamese Hammer Joined at the Handle 1982 brings up the question, why didn’t I think of that? It also questions the actual design of the Hammer itself. Finally, Elaine Mayes’s Pegasus 1972 connects the old Greek mythology of Medusa to today’s society with its representation of the Mobile Gas Company.
