Rococo
Rococo Rococo was born in France in the middle of the XVIIIth century. It was a reaction of nobility against classical baroque which had been imposed at Versailles by Louis the XIVth. It is a style of the aristocracy: it reveals a taste for what is clear and elegant, refined and gallant. It fits to a life without worry, agreable and closely related to nature. The characteristics of this style are related to its name. The 1789 French Revolution interrupts the development of Rococo. Its influence on French architecture is limited, yet it reaches Germany where it finds favorable ground. Baroque sculptors and painters adopt a new style. Bibliography:
