It was a reaction of nobility against classical baroque which had been imposed at Versailles by Louis the XIVth. It is a style of the aristocracy: it reveals a taste for what is clear and elegant, refined and gallant. It fits to a life without worry, agreable and closely related to nature.The characteristics of this style are related to its name. The 1789 French Revolution interrupts the development of Rococo.
