I am going to talk about the Patton’s life in general. This includes his child hood, education, his militarycareer, and his involvement in the world wars.George was born on a ranch on November 11, 1885 in SanGabriel, California. He went to school in Pasadena andlater to the Virginia Military Institute from 1903-1904. Hewas not a good student, but he was an excellent sailor. Hewas also a great track athlete. He took part in theOlympics at Stockholm in 1912 and set a world record intarget shooting. He also won first or second place inswimming, horsemanship, and racing.On May 26, 1910 George married Beatrice Ayer of Boston. They had 1 son and 2 daughters. The son went to West Pointin 1942 and both daughters married army men.In 1904 he was appointed to the United States MilitaryAcademy. He graduated in 1909 and was commissioned tosecond lieutenant of Calvary.He was first involved in an expedition in Mexico as anaide to General Pershing in 1917. He was a member ofPershing’s staff and went to France and studied French TankTactics and the French Tank School. During World War 1, he started a tank training schooland commanded a tank brigade. He was awarded theDistinguished Service Cross for his courge, energy, andintelligence in directing the advance of his brigade in1918. From 1919-1928, he commanded and trained severaldifferent brigade units around the United States. From1928-1931, he served in Washington D.C. as the Chief ofCalvery. He commanded many different calvalry units from1932-1938. During this time he earned the permanent rank ofLieutenant Colonel.During World War 2, he commanded U.S. forces inMorocco, Tunisia, and Sicily. In 1944 he was given command of the third army. Thethird army broke through the German defense and advancedacross France. In March 1945, they crossed the Rhine riverinto Germany and moved toward Austria.After the war he became military governor of Bavaria,but was later relieved. He wa...
