Maytag
Maytag Guidelines for Contributions and Community Involvement Maytag Corporation designs, builds, and markets products that make life easier, simpler, and more convenient. Each product delivered to a consumer echoes our mission to improve the quality of home life through dependable, reliable service. We demonstrate a similar commitment to improving the quality of life for our employees and hometown communities through a long-standing contributions and community involvement program. As a Fortune 500 company with major investments in facilities, technology, and employees in many locations, we view our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and a good neighbor as a natural extension of our strategic mission and a good way to do business. Being socially responsible in whatever we do is an integral part of being a successful company. It is a privilege linked to our right to conduct business in a free enterprise environment. Also, for Maytag to continue to thrive and grow, we must be a part of improving social and family life conditions for our employees, customers, and communities. Our mission for contributions is to improve the vitality of our communities and address issues important to our employees and to the future of the company and its customers. We will focus our support on: · Education that builds a skilled work force. · Programs that enhance family life. · Activities that involve and recognize the value of our employees. · Programs that enhance Maytag communities. In addition to these target areas, Maytag is interested in supporting organizations and programs that demonstrate themes consistent with the company’s core values. We place greater value on programs that: · Put people first as the beneficiary of our support. · Provide innovative programs for addressing issues and solving problems. · Demonstrate and attract leadership. · Build linkages and partnerships with other groups and the community. · Demonstrate ownership from volunteers, staff and others committed to its success. · Have the capacity to achieve results. Maytag concentrates its support on programs that address the key issues and criteria in the communities where the company has major operations and where our employees live and work. Beyond the needs of our local communities, we will consider supporting selected programs based on how specifically they help address the issues and criteria set forth in these guidelines. Our goal is to be responsive to organizations that seek our support, but increasingly, we will target a greater percentage of our support through competitive grants and through projects that the company chooses to undertake and less by unsolicited requests. Our support focuses on four major areas: Maytag targets its support on educational programs that build a competitive work force for Maytag and the communities where the company operates. 2. Strong Families and Early Childhood Reflecting our interest in improving the quality of home life, Maytag supports programs that address the needs of families and children. o Parenting skills and new families 3. Social, Economic, and Cultural Vitality We are interested in supporting programs in major Maytag communities that build social and economic stability and contribute to making these communities attractive places for our employees and their neighbors to live. o Innovative community problem-solving Beyond making direct grants, Maytag employees provide generous support through their personal and company-sponsored volunteer activities. Employees also have the opportunity to direct a portion of the Maytag Corporation Foundation’s support to many organizations through the Matching Gift Program. The program has been expanded to include higher education, cultural organizations, human services organizations, youth programs, and community education foundations. Given the nature of our business, the company often is asked to make in-kind contributions of products. Sometimes donating our products can be the most effective way to support an organization or program. However, the donation of products and in-kind resources will be reviewed based on the same priorities, criteria, and process that we use to judge cash contributions. If an organization does not qualify for a product donation, we do have an Appliance Purchase Plan for Charitable Organizations available to most 501(c)(3) human services organization. Qualified, nonprofit organizations are invited to submit requests that address one or more of our priorities and criteria outlines in these guidelines. Requests are reviewed as submitted but must be approved by the trustees of the Maytag Corporation Foundation. Requests from organizations serving communities with Maytag operations must be reviewed and approved by the manager of the local operation prior to submission to the Foundation. 1. Review our program focus and criteria and what we do not fund. 2. Submit written responses to the following questions: · What issue or problem are you addressing? · How does this issue relate to Maytag’s goals, areas of focus and criteria? · What are your organization’s credentials or capabilities to address this issue? · What is the scope of your program? · Who are the clients, audience or people served by this program? · What specifically are you requesting of Maytag? · What is the rationale for this request and the amount requested of Maytag? · What are the timeframe and key dates? · How will you measure results or success of this program? · How will you sustain this program after Maytag support ends? · What will your organization expect of Maytag in the future? 3. Mail a two-or-three page letter outlining the proposal and your responses to the key questions, along with supporting information to include: · An annual report or other information about your organization, its volunteer board, leadership, current programs, program and organization budget, financial statement and a list of other current or proposed contributions. · A copy of your organization’s IRS tax exempt 501(c)(3) letter of qualification. Organizations located in Iowa should direct inquiries to: Groups located in or serving communities where Maytag has facilities should address material to the contributions manager at the locations listed in Maytag Communities. In order to focus our limited contributions resources, there are a number of organizations and programs that we do not fund. Generally, we do not support: · Organizations without IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. · Organizations that limit membership and services based on race, religion, color, creed, sex, age, or national origin. · Organizations or projects outside the United States. · Conferences, seminars, trips, tours or similar events. · Program/projects involving the delivery of direct health care. · Advertising for benefit or courtesy purposes. · Requests for loans or debt retirement. · Operating expenses of organizations supported by United Way other than through United Way. · Religious or sectarian programs for religious purposes. · National health organizations or their local affiliates. · Veterans, labor and political organization or campaigns. · Fraternal, athletic, and social clubs. · Projects and organizations without connection to a major Maytag plant community. · Organizations that might in any way pose a conflict with Maytag’s mission, goals, programs, products or employees. The Maytag Corporation Foundation is the primary source of charitable grants made by Maytag Corporation. However, on occasion, the company also uses company funds or in-kind donations to support programs that address priority issues and meet the criteria of our corporate citizenship program. In all cases, the program focus, criteria, and key questions serve as our basis for reviewing requests made of the company. We are aware that the competition for contributions in every form is increasing. This also means that we continue to receive many more requests for support than we can possibly fulfill. We promise to give every request a fair review. We hope that you will take the time to consider how your program fits into our guidelines before you submit a proposal. If you have any questions about our guidelines, please contact us before submitting a request. Bibliography:
