One of the main reasons Mervyns do not hire full time employees is to reduce wage cost by not providing employees with such benefit like insurance and vocation time. Currently 70 percent of employees working at Mervyns are part-time employees. Other than money Mervyns have various positive motivations which tend to provide for their employees. 15 percent discount at Mervyns California and 10 percent discount at Target. Earn 1 dollar for each credit application fill by guest. 10 percent discount if he/she makes employee of the month. Point system to keep employees aware of their status. The daily meeting which feedback on individual status, and goals of teams. Even an employee missed the morning meeting because of their schedule starts later that day summary and goals are posted everywhere in store to inform the employees. However with great extrinsic motivation from Mervyns, I found following methods are some weaknesses to corporation. Extrinsic motivation could cause lower performance of employees. Rating employees for performance is useless when majority of employees are part-time. Bibliography:
