Computers
The future is Coming Faster
The future is Coming Faster The first computer called the Eniac had 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighed nearly 30 tons! Today, some computers weigh no more than a few pounds. It was predicted back then that perhaps computers would weigh around 1 ½ tons and contain about 1,000 vacuum tubes. But, were they wrong? Yes, very wrong! The latest pentium chip today contains 42 million transistors. That does the job of one of Eniac's glowing tubes but far more rapidly and efficiently. But the end is not even close. These chips are getting smaller and smaller. And computers are getting faster and faster. They had no idea when the first computer was invented that they would turn out as good as they did. No one even was thinking of the Internet back then. The Internet is a web of information that is being spun tighter and tighter. And as times go on, it's going to be one single piece. Computers will be everywhere. You won't have to carry one around; they will be publicly available to you. It is almost scary how much information you can get nowadays with just the click of a button after typing in one word. I don't think there is one thing I ever looked up that came up with less than about a million web sites on that topic. It's getting crazy, and somewhere this has to stop. Technology is a great thing, but soon no one will have any privacy, almost all of their information will be open to the general public. Bibliography: NY Times Week-in-Review
