With the large amount of college graduates, (computer science majors graduating college) and the occasional genius, these companies have the resources to continually create a great product, keeping ideas as fresh as possible. In part this is why the computers we had a couple of years ago or even a few months ago, are deemed obsolete. For example Intel, which produces the well-known Pentium chip series, has created computer processors in rapid succession, each one impossibly outdoing the other. When it first announced the Pentium II in 1997, consumers were astounded at the speed of the new chips. But in a whirlwind of improvement and less than 3 years later, Intel has just recently released the Pentium 4, which is 5 times faster at 1.5GHz. For consumers, the choices are not favorable. They either keep their computer which will be unable to run most new software that have been produced for the more favorable and faster computers, or they spend yet another thousand or so dollars to have the latest technology. While the specific computer components, like processors, are the main driving force for companies, innovation means much more than that. Computers are now being placed inside of every tool imaginable. We have them in our phones, refrigerators, and even in our bodies with devices such as pacemakers. We use them to aide us in cooking our food, tell us how to get somewhere, or to keep us company via robotic dogs.
