Scary Story
Scary Story I looked up at the black sky. I hadn't intended to be out this late. The sun had set, and the empty road ahead had no streetlights. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I began to whistled to take my mind off the eerie noises I was hearing. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe that I could be seeing these long finger shaped shadows that stretched out to me. I had this gut feeling as though something was following me, but I assured myself that I was the only one in the forest. At least I had hoped that I was. As the bushes and brush grew more solid I began to ponder. Will I make it through this forest tonight or will I be taken in by the thick of the mystery? Sounds from sluggish foot steps caused a vibration around me that lead me to stop in my place and listen closely. Could this forest be haunted or was I just over exaggerating? I started to get very nervous by this time. “It will be just fine,” I told myself. I am just imagining things. I continued my journey through the forest but negative thoughts were running through my little head. Just as I took a step, I found myself face first right into a newly woven web. I thought of the spider crawling somewhere on my body which irked me and sent shivers through my soul. I took a glance around and found myself looking right into a pair of dark, glassy eyes peering at me through the bushes. I knew I was not seeing things at that moment. Were those the evil eyes of a goblin lurking waiting for it’s next meal? My breath became too rapid for me to be able to whistle. I took a big gulp and decided to step on it and quicken my pace. I would never get home at this rate. The same moment I decided to quicken my speed, a deer burst through the night. I screamed, stumbled and hit the ground with a loud thump. I sat on the moist ground for a moment to try to recover but my heart began to throb as if it was beating within my throat. It was just a deer I told myself, I had to be brave. Trying to get myself together I began to feel this hot puffs of air on the back of my neck. “It’s the goblin!” I screamed as I rapidly rose to my feet. My head spun like an owl as I went to look for what was behind me. I looked to the ground and discovered a little white dog. “You scared me to death little guy. What is a cute little puppy like you doing in a dense forest like this?” I said to him. I was relieved it was only a dog instead of the ghastly goblin, but I only made it half-way home by then. As I proceeded on the white little dog followed me. I felt more at ease now that I had him following me but he would not be considered much of a watch dog to most people. He was the whitest dog that I had ever seen. I decided that I would call him Moonbeam. Moonbeam, our shadows and I moved on. All of a sudden a loud inhuman-like shriek came out from the darkness. The whole forest came to a complete silence. Moonbeam stopped and his ears perked, I knew I was up for another surprise. The unbearable loud shrill echoed throughout the forest once again. Whatever or whomever it was had to be up ahead. “This is it”, I thought to myself. This had to be the goblin coming to get me. I couldn’t have made it this far through his frightening dominion without upsetting him. I didn’t want to keep moving, but I knew that I had to or I would never have gotten home. I thought to myself, “The best way to avoid this possible ferocious thing was to make a run for it.” Something had moved in the bush! I held my breath to try not to make any minute sound. My legs were anchors dragging and digging up the saturated soil. From behind the bushes out waddled an enormous bird of some sort. It was the most peculiar animal that I had ever encountered. The beak of this massive bird was shaped like a large spoon. Moonbeam quickly chased the bird away. I stood there and whipped my forehead with the bottom of my shirt and once again exhaled with ease. So many questions revolved in my mind. “Why had I stayed out so late? What else could possibly happen this evening? I'm never staying out late again!" I had told Moonbeam. Moonbeam licked my finger-tip and then had given me a small yelp. I knew he wondered as well. “Look Moonbeam,” I exclaimed. I finally made out the shapes up ahead. There I stood, Moonbeam and myself admiring my little home sweet home. "Come on Moonbeam, let's go home," I said. I ran the rest of the way home. “Oh no Moonbeam!,” I grunted. “How was I going to explain you to my mother?” Just as I reached down to pick up the pooch, my hand passed right through the little dog's body. Moonbeam vanished into thin air. õ Bibliography:
