I can’t quite remember what it was called. It is a place where it is forever dark and it is ruled by something or someone extraordinarily powerful. In this place, humans walk alongside with gargoyles, beasts and ogres where humans are the inferiors. There is no sun or stars or moon, nor is there day or night. There is no democracy. Humans are the slaves and are treated like animals, men and women alike. Humans aren’t allowed to speak out, Laugh or even smile or they will be severely punished. They live in a nightmare society. The land is engulfed in darkness. There is no electricity, no roads, no transportation, no houses, no communication, no nothing. There is fire. That is all they have to bring light to the place. The beasts live in giant homes or shelters made of anything they can find. The beasts are absolutely horrid creatures. They are nothing like you or I have ever seen before, not even in horror films. They are not like anything you could ever even imagine. Their faces are mangled and deformed. They are decrepit figures who do not walk but drag themselves from place to place. Humans do not roam freely. They are shackled together by long chains that go on forever. They are pets. They do not get shelter and they barely receive enough food or water to survive. They are given the rotten leftovers and bones to pick at. When I speak of bones, I am talking about human bones. Not the bones of pig or cow, they do not exist. The beasts find humans very useful indeed. They believe that humans are extremely simple-minded which, in result, makes them good slaves. They tend to the crops and pick the fruit, which is all done in a very specific manner. If it is not done correctly, those slaves will be thrown into the pit. Humans are used to pull wagons and sleds. They build all of the huts and shelters needed for the beasts. They cook and clean and are used as personal slaves as well, if you know what I mean. When the humans become too old to use for physical labor, they are either eaten by the beasts or thrown to the pit for the rest of their lives. The beasts are very intelligent creatures. They would never want to run out of humans, so they had cages made. These cages are used for the reproduction of humans. The beasts choose the strongest men and women and put them all together in these cages. Once the children are born, the humans are well fed and get their own hut to raise the child until it is strong enough to work. Humans consider themselves lucky if they are chosen to breed. It saves them from doing any labor for some period of time. It is also their one and only chance in life to ever make love. But in the end they must neglect the child and go back to work. If the humans fail to reproduce, they are thrown to the pit and other couples are chosen. All of the humans are slaves yet; they are allowed to speak as long as it is work related. Unfortunately, they are severely punished if they are caught speaking out. They could be whipped, tortured, eaten or even thrown into the pit. Any humans that are caught laughing or smiling will be automatically thrown into the pit for life. Smiling and laughing is absolutely forbidden because it is incorporated with amusement. Slaves are not permitted to have any fun as long as they are living. I bet you’re all wondering by now exactly what is this pit that I’ve been speaking of. Well, it is a giant hole dug into the ground right in the middle of this nightmare society. The pit was created initially for those who laughed or smiled. It is now used for many purposes as speaking out of line, being unable to reproduce, for the elderly and many more. The pit contains people who are sentenced to punishment either for a period of time or for life. Inside the pit, there aren’t any alligators, lions or torturers. Simply the accused themselves. But what goes on inside this pit is not a pretty sight. You see, there are humans down there who have been down there for a very long time. Some of them will be there forever. They have learnt how to survive down there without any natural food sources. Some of them have lost their minds and others are simply vegetables. Every time a new, fresh one is thrown down into the pit, there is chaos of excitement. Some of the really hungry ones will come right up to you and bite a huge chunk right out of your warm flesh. There are so many humans down there that there is hardly any room to move. If you aren’t sentenced to life in the pit, you aren’t let out so easily. Before getting let back into the world, your mouth is sewn closed with a zipper. It is locked forever to keep you from making a sound. They say that when you die, your zipper is then unlocked. The beasts, ogres and gargoyles all live together to rule this society. But they do not have the upper hand. There is a much stronger force controlling them. No one has ever spoken of “His” name. The beasts and ogres are “His” descendants. They have rules too and have to do what “He” says. We can only wonder who this person is. Is it a human, a beast or even some unknown force? Could it be God? Only God holds this much power and could create such surreal things. But why would He create this nightmare society? Why would God ever wish evil over good? Could it be that God has an evil side too? I myself cannot imagine living in a nightmare society like this. I sure am glad that I live nowhere near that horrid place. Wait a minute.
