lert and enthralled in the lessons I was interested in. I know that when I was in grade school teachers taught from the textbooks and followed a lesson plan. I found this boring and repetitive. When a teacher stands in front of a classroom and teaches a lesson it is hard to get the students involved because that would be straying from the lesson plan. This is what turns students off to schooling and this could be a long-term effect. Teaching kids at a young age about diverse cultures and races will help they understand equality. Equality is important because that may lead to world peace. Children are naive and will learn from there parents be it good or bad. But if we teach in the schools about equality this will not be a problem. I must say that my views on teaching have changed dramatically. I learned a lot from this book, because I have never been exposed to a school of this type. I always thought I would teach in a school that was similar to the one that I attended. Now that I read this book I think it might be more challenging and more rewarding to teach in a school like P.S. 103. Mr. Kohl should feel like a hero because he was one to so many children. When I teach I hope that my students will keep in touch with me and tell me their life accomplishments. This would make me feel like I did something to change this individuals life. I had many concerns when I was reading this book, being that I could one day be in that same situation as Mr. Kohl. I wondered if I would have the strength and courage to go there everyday and have my patience tested. ...
