The cost of living was so high that many teachers could not afford to stay. This way they can retain current teacher and attract new teachers with a place to live. Even though it feels as if I have been teaching forever, four years is not that long ago. I have seen a great change in the way that school districts are hiring personnel. It almost appears that now many school districts have taken on the hiring practices of the corporate world. They are fighting for the best-qualified people to come to their district and teach by using better practices such as long-term observations with the college students and by offering incentives to get the best teachers attention.
