A good man is hard to find
A good man is hard to find I firmly believe that people reap what they sew. In the story, “ A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” the grand mother is a prime example of this scenario. Her pathetic ploys and acts of deviance cause harm to the family throughout the story and it ends up coming back to her in the end. You can tell that harms is inevitable for the family by some of the clues that are found in the grandmother’s For example, in the opening paragraph of the story, she is complaining perversely for the family to go on vacation in East Tennessee instead of Florida. The rest of the family wants to go to Florida but yet she is determined for them to do as she says. I believe that this is an early indication as to what kind of person she is. As they were leaving their home, she snuk a cat in a black valise into the car. The family didn’t want to arrive at a hotel with a cat so they told her not to bring it. Being the deviant person she is, she brought it anyway without them knowing. This would later come back to haunt the family later on in the story. Why would you do something like that when family members specifically told you not to. The grandmother was also a nagging person. She could get on your very last nerve. When her son Bailey was driving down the road, she persistently reminded him of the speed limit. “ The speed limit was fifty-five miles an hour and the patrol man hide behind the billboards and small clumps of trees and they will speed out after you before you get a chance to slow down,” the grandmother replied. I hate when someone tries to tell me how to drive. She should have been grateful instead of hateful because the family didn’t have to drag her along if they didn’t want to. I know that Bailey is her some, but why does she constantly aggravate him? My mother picks on me occasionally but never to the extent of the grandmother. The grandmother was a very dishonest person. She began telling little John Wesley ( her grandson), about a plantation she used to visit. She pointed to an old grave yard visible to the road. The more she thought about it the more she wanted to go back and see it. She knew that the family would not be up for seeing an old run down hat. What does she do? She begins to lie profusely, telling John Wesley about a secret trap door that has never been found to this day. This, in turn, cause the children to want to go visit the house and after constant ridicule the father turns the car around. They begin to go down a narrow dirt road. The cat jumps out of the bag and in turn causes the car to wreck. When they get out of the car she decided not to tell them that the plantation she was thinking about was in Tennessee, not Georgia. By her bringing the cat along and insisting that they go see the house, causes them to wreck. Her childish behavior was the When they have an encounter with the misfit, she constantly pleads for him not to harm her or her family. She tells him to believe in Jesus. Fearing for her life she tries any means necessary to get the man to see things her way. You are one of my children she says. He turned around and shot her three times in the chest. Why does all of this happen? It comes back to my theory you reap what you sew. Her constantly being a hassle for her and her family eventually caught up with her. If she had been more cooperative, none of this would have ever happened. If she hadn’t brought the cat or wanted to see that house, they would have made it to Florida and been getting some sun on the beach. Whether or not people believe this, when you do bad things, they will comeback to haunt you eventually. However, if you do good things, they will come back and help you somehow. I think the grand mother should have been more concerning for her family instead of being so concerned for herself. The whole scene with the misfit, it seems as if she is changing her ways. But it was too late to change you ways before you know you are getting ready to die. It is pointless to think to yourself you will be okay if you straighten up your act. It doesn’t work that way. You should try to be more compatible with others and more helpful. Because I know you won’t want to end your life like the grandmother. Bibliography:
