Cottle shows the growing concern in male by the increase of "Men's Health" magazine, "Since 1990, "Men's Health" has seen its paid circulation rise from 250,000 to more than 1.5 million" (Pg. 431). Naiman and Cottle both show the concern that men are getting to concerned about their figure, Naiman is more concerned about the medical treatment men are using to achieve self-satisfaction and Cottle, with lots of enthusiasm, gives the pro's of men taking action towards a better figure. Naiman presents the argument that men who have become self-conscience are using medical treatment to satisfy themselves, which the author believes is not the right approach mainly because of the dangers the procedures hold. Cottle presents the argument of how women should accept the fact that men are building a competition between one another, men know that women go for the 6-pack, the hot model-like figure, so they have become concerned. Naiman could've presented the argument better by presenting other better ways that men can use, other than liposuction, to work on their figures. Naiman could have given the reader alternatives to medical procedures. As much as the article tried to show the cons of medical treatments, Naimain gives the example of a successful, but costly, liposcution procedure. "I don't regret one penny (of the $4,700 plus GST) it cost. But I didn't realize what an invasive and serious procedure it is. Still, I heartily recommend it" Brady (EAA, pg. 426). By presenting a successful liposuction experience, Naiman contradicts her own argument on how she is against the whole procedure. Cottle, throughout the entire article, from beginning to end enforces the idea how men should not get so concerned and how figure and fashion is women’s thing.
