Huck Finn8217s Experiences

ut slavery have not changed dramatically and yet he still feels that he is doing the wrong thing, yet he will not say anything to keep his word. This also shows what are the things that are most important to him at this moment in the novel. While on the raft, Jim says this to Huck “Dah you goes, de ole true Huck; de on’y white genlman dat ever kep’ his promise to ole Jim” (Twain, pg 89). This is when Huck keeps thinking about whether or not he should turn Jim in. The way that he was brought up keeps reminding him that what he is doing is a very sinful act. Huck feels guilty once Jim makes this quote because his heart is also telling him that he is making the right decisions. Huck keeps up a constant battle between his conscience and what his heart is telling him to do, but all of these experiences are changing him as a character day by day. Huck sees that what his society has told him all along has been wrong, and black people are just the same as white people.Huck’s character is also changed with the experience of saving Jim. Huck finally decides to save Jim after he rips up the letter to Ms.Watson. This is a quote taken from when Huck is thinking if he should write a letter to Ms.Watson or not, “…I come to being lost and going to hell. And went on thinking. And got to thinking over our trip down the river; and I see Jim before me all the time…” Huck is thinking about all this experiences and moments with Jim. He also goes on to think, “…But somehow I couldn’t seem to strike no places to harden me against him…I was a trembling, because I’d got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: ‘All right, then, I’ll go to hell’ and tore it up” (Twain, pg 214).
