reconcile with St. John, Jane hears a voice on the wind calling her name much like the story of Damascus in the bible that she had studied for so long. "And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." (Acts. 9:6). But was it the voice of God? No, it was the voice of Mr. Rochester. She has come to see that Mr. Rochester is her destiny, and that she must seek him out. Now she is doing something of her own free will.Although St. John had a profound effect on Jane, it would not have been so powerful if it weren't for the circumstances under which the lived. If Mary and Diana hadn't been living with them, if they hadn't realized that they were all related, and if Jane hadn't heard Rochester like the voice of God on the wind, the effect of St. John on her life would have been much decreased. However, with these circumstances, St. John ultimately enabled Jane to take control of her life which allowed her happiness....
