Iranians saw American’s as harsh, militaristic power that was intervening in Vietnam, a small country like Iran. This is where resentment between Iran and the United States grew. American’s during this time were malignant towards Iranian American’s who lived in the United States. If I were Satti, I would have told Abbas to help in making British and Iran a more unified nation. Since Abbas work for the British/Iranian oil company and had a very noble status. Pages 282-291What I do not understand is during this time, why were the people anti-shah when at the same time they wanted freedom from the government. Iranians now know what mistakes they have made kicking out the shah and bringing Ayatollah Khomeini into power. The shah wanted to “westernize” Iran and create a modern environment for its people. Satti makes a good point by saying “Meantime, the government, preoccupied with paying for American weapons and an army vastly greater than any conceivable threat could justify, was still unable to provide enough jobs, housing, schools, medical, and sanitation services to keep up with the giant population of the slums and shantytowns. What really angers me is the fact that Satti has mixed feelings for the government of Iran, and yet she spent more than half of her life in European countries, and the United States.
