In the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird the issue of racism is brought up. This is one of the major themes in the novel. The setting of the novel was taking place in the 1940s. That is a similar time period to when racism was a very strong topic in people’s lives in the real world. White people had a strong dislike towards blacks. Blacks had very few freedoms and rights, also. In the novel the issue of racism was never really resolved. Only a few people actually ended up understanding how serious the topic was. In the United States in the 1940s, racism was at its peak. Some very important African American people such as Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks stood up for black rights. These people had a huge affect on black’s getting rights finally. In the 90s racism has gone down a lot.
