he man struggled and could not get his money back. Sancho says to the woman that, “if you’d shown the same valorous spirit you’ve displayed in defending that purse, or even half as much, in defending your body, the strength of Hercules couldn’t have forced you”(760). Most people would right away blame the man for this, but Sancho’s good instincts allowed to think about what happened and make a wise decision. The Duke tries very hard to make Sancho look like a fool and give up his governorship but nothing seems to work. Sancho is very determined and nothing will stop him from doing a good job. The Duke even hires a physician to observe what Sancho is eating. He feeds Sancho very little and basically forces him to starve. Still, Sancho proves that he is strong and continues to prove the Duke wrong. The Duke had everything planned out to make Sancho look ridiculous, but it was just the opposite. Sancho continues making wise decisions until the Duke gets very angry and decides to put an end to everything and attack Sancho’s island and force him to leave. Before this attack took place, Sancho receives a letter from Don Quixote. In this letter Don Quixote explains to Sancho how proud he is of him at succeeding as governor. He says, “Where I expected, friend Sancho, to hear news of your negligence and folly, I have had accounts of your wise actions, for which I return especial thanks to Heaven, which can raise the poor from the dunghill and make wise men of fools”(800).
