Sancho Panza as governor

#8221;(815). He leaves with dignity and goes back to his family and Don Quixote where he belongs.While Sancho is governor he makes up some ordinances touching the good government of what is supposed to be his isle. “So good, in fact, were the laws he ordained that they are kept in that place to this day under the name of The Constitutions of the great Governor Sancho Panza”(804). As you can see, the joke ends up being on the Duke rather than Sancho. Sancho proves to himself, Don Quixote, the Duke, and everyone from his isle that even a poor peasant man could succeed as governor.After leaving the isle, Sancho returns to Don Quixote in search of more adventures. He says, “in those eight days that he has held his governorship has gained this knowledge, that he would rather not give a farthing to be governor, not just of one isle but even of the whole world”(828). I feel that the whole episode where Sancho is governor is one of the most important parts of the book. It is here where we learn a great deal about Sancho and about life in general. We learn that even though Sancho always dreamed of being governor, he ends up regretting it all and wishing it never happened. During these few chapters I also noticed that Don Quixote is truly proud of his squire for the first time in the book. Although Don Quixote doubted Sancho when he first took control of his isle, Sancho proves him wrong and wins his heart by doing a great job as governor. He shows great instinct, leadership, and decision-making during his eight-day reign as governor.Finally, this episode points out one of the themes in the book. It proves that some things are never as good as they seem. Sancho thought his whole life would be better by becoming a governor, but in actuality it was one of the worst times in his life. When his governorship is over he realizes that he wants to go back and go on more adventures with his good friend Don Quixote. H...
