In many ways, Miller creates a clear depiction between himself and John Proctor. As a modern tragic hero, his ideals of becoming a hero, or martyr, are dying in a worthwhile, but meaningful method: “Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! I have given you my soul” (886) . Miller, whom also committed adultery, confesses himself through his writings. Through John Proctor, Miller shows his inner-self creating that love between Proctor and Abigail that creates the same effect of all adulterous relationships, terminal ultimatum. Moreover, Miller points out many dissatisfactional actions done through the characters. This portrays an insecure trait of Miller’s; as though he has done the same actions has the characters. This is also a trait of the Modern Tragic Hero whom points out other peoples flaws but rather not his own.Furthermore, The Crucible is clearly a direct analysis of Miller’s erroneous character flaws. As a direct analysis of the McCartney hearings, and himself, Miller depicts the specifications true modern tragic hero, as if Miller were in their shoes. As Proctor lives his life as a sinner and finally pays for it through death, including taking full responsibility for your actions, Miller claims that is the true modern tragic hero. ...
