sband were deeply in debt. For ten years they worked day in and day out until finally the debt was paid off. One day Mathilde was walking in a park and stumbled across a lady walking with a child, it was her rich friend. Mathilde approached the long time friend, the lady did not even recognize who it was. Mathilde told her friend of the incident that happened so long ago concerning the necklace. Her friend was appalled to hear of it and told Mathilde that the necklace she had borrowed was only costume jewelry. It was only worth at most five hundred francs. As a result of Mathildes dishonesty and greediness she and her husband had been in debt for ten years over a fake necklace.In conclusion, no one really knows what would have happened if Mathilde would have tried to be happy with the life she had, instead of wishing for material things that meant nothing in the end but more heartache. Also, if Mathilde would have been honest with her friend her life may have improved instead of worsening. During the ten years that Mathilde and her husband spent working to pay back for the necklace, they could have been using that money to better their economic situations. The point the author was trying to get to the reader was that people should be honest and happy with what they have. If they are not, then they may have a harder problem on their hands in the end. In short, if one is honest and content with the life one has in the present it will get them farther in the future. ...
