r indulgence of food and drink leads to abuse and a life of sorrow. It must be counteracted with abstinence. Lechery is the worst crime of theft, because it steals the body of should of oneself and to remedy the sin one must stop all lechery. Confession of ones own sins should be free and not forced because to do so only creates greater sin. The Parsons Tale, is really only an explanation of mans greatest sins and how we as imperfect beings can still obtain salvation through our own spiritual reversal of our attitudes and actions. Chaucer gives the hope of salvation to all by making the seven deadly sins reversibly through easy steps when salvation is as simple as repentment of mans own sins. Men look towards the advice of great poets like Geoffrey Chaucer to unravel the mysteries of life and how we as human beings can obtain greatness and salvation under gods standards of good and evil. The Greek poet Aesop once said, Be content with your lot, one cannot be first in everything. He tries to tell us that we as people must be happy with all our knowledge and not envy those who have it because we all cant have the knowledge we must also be content and learn from within ourselves before we can begin to venture further in search for knowledge of god and our own existence....
