To Kill A Mockingbird

“ I’m little but I’m old.”( p. 7 ) says Dill when he first meets Jem and hissister Scout, the main character of the book To Kill a Mockingbird by HarperLee. Besides being little, Dill is many things that Jem and Scout are not.because he is different he brings much to his friendship with Jem and Scout.Their friendship is very valuable to all the three children and they all learn alot from each other.Since Dill doesn’t live in Maycomb County ( where Jem and Scoutlive ) he has done some things that Jem and Scout. One thing he had donewas go to picture shows and “ Dill had seen Dracula,” ( p. 7 ) Dill thenretold the story of the picture to Jem and Scout who had never seen it. Theywere able to get a new perspective on it because of Dill. If it wasn’t for Dill,Jem and Scout would have never heard this new and more exciting version ofDracula that Jem said “ Sounded far better than the book.” ( p. 8 )Another thing Dill brought to his relationship with Jem and Scout washis great talent for acting. many an afternoon were spent reenacting booksread by Jem or picture shows seen by Dill. Without Dill, Jem and Scoutreenactments of Tarzan, The Rover Boys and Tom Swift would have beenincomplete. “ Dill was a villain’s villain; he could get into any part assignedhim and appear tall if height was part of the devilry required.” ( p. 39) Acting wasn’t the only thing that Dill brought to the friendshipbetween himself, Jem and Scout. Dill’s “ ... head teemed with eccentricplans, strange longings and quaint fancies.” ( p. 8 ) One of his eccentricplans was to give Boo Radley a note. Jem and Scout were not veryadventurous and would have never dreamed of doing any thing like that ontheir own. But, with Dill there they were willing to try.
