uilt and she can do nothing more than sit stifled in her chair futilely begging for Beloved’s forgiveness. .Denver learns from Seth’s ceaseless desire to make Beloved comprehend why she killed her. Sethe explains to Beloved that, “no one, nobody on this earth, would list her daughter’s characteristics on the animal side of the paper”(251). Although Beloved would never understand, Denver did. This new insight stimulates her personality to ripen. Morrison writes, “this and much more Denver heard her say from her corner chair, trying to persuade Beloved, the only person she felt she had to convince, that what she had done was right because it came from true love” (251). Had Sethe felt Denver needed to be convinced, she would have led a more normal life.This revelation convinces Denver that she needs to permanently change her position. She knows that with or without her presence, Beloved is going to entomb Sethe. She has an epiphany: “somebody had to be saved, but unless Denver got work, there would be no one to save, no one to come home to, and no Denver either. It was a new thought, having a self to look out for and preserve” (252). At last, she comes to know that she is important. Denver’s survival depends on her own strength and willingness to succeed and she discovers inspiration to be zealous. Once Denver gains the courage to ask the Bodwins for work, her life changes for the better. The community is impressed with her because she does not posses her mother’s pride: “The daughter, however, appeared to have some sense after all. At least she had stepped out the door, asked for the help she needed and wanted work” (256). The same community helps expel the spite from her home. Stamp Paid declares, “Lay off Denver, Paul D. That’s my heart. I’m proud of that girl” (266) when discussing Sethe’s attack on Mr. Bodwin. She has left her m...
