William Faulkners Nobel Prize

at expresses Cranes naturalistic qualities showing men having no control over their destiny as they are stuck in the ocean and are controlled by the sea. Although Crane is seen as a naturalist writer, he is also seen as a Christian symbolist expressing ultimate understanding of faith and the redemption of people. Robert Frost, like Stephen Crane, also was a naturalist writer and would disagree with Faulkner. He believed man had no free will and man would become the sum of your choices. Frost writes in ordinary speech as Faulkner did in his Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech. Like Frost and Crane, Eugene ONeill also expressed a naturalistic point of view on his writings. ONeills naturalistic theme is seen is his work The Hairy Ape. In this story, Yank, the main character, is unable to escape from natures wrath and is killed by the gorilla. Eugene ONeill views nature as controlling the human being. Man, as yank does, has no free will to escape from death. Jack Londons naturalistic view influenced him greatly to write as he did.The final author, a naturalist, recognized and appreciated the nature of an American experience. Walt Whitman believed God existed in nature and although nature controlled man, God knew what was best for man. He viewed birth and death as one mans life. Whitman believed life was a cycle that every human being must go through. Whitman and Faulkner would disagree on the views of mans destiny.Throughout the semester we have studied many different authors and many different works. Many works have had a naturalistic point of view like Whitman or Crane, but there also have been many authors and works who would have agreed with Faulkner like Eliot. I have gained great wisdom from these authors and walk away with many lessons learned. ...
