If they stay with who they are presently with then they will be extremely unhappy and that relationship will not go smoothly; however, if they divorce there current spouses, they will have to form a new relationship under the stress of disgracing themselves and their families from going against society. Not only can the society surrounding a couple form the destination of their relationship, so can their immediate surroundings.If living conditions are not suitable it can cause an added stress on a couples relationship. For example, if a couple is living in poverty their relationship will reflect it in a negative way. Any outside stresses plays a part in a relationship. Not only do unsuitable living conditions affect a relationship, so do alterations in living conditions. Perhaps the husband takes a new job where he will be traveling the majority of the time. Both the husband and the wife will suffer. If one is used to the other being there, and that changes, a strain will be put on the relationship. In opposition to the couple being together all the time, is the couple where one is usually gone and now he/she is at home constantly. An example of this would be the truck driver and his wife in Kunderas short story Shiloh. This truck driver gets in a bad accident while on the job and quits this job resulting in a schedule that does not fit what his wife is used to. Because of this new living condition or surrounding, the couple does not last. She just could not deal with him being there all the time. Whether it be poverty or a change in ones surroundings, unsuitable living conditions in any form, make it very hard for a relationship to work. Many of lifes severe realities can bring upon tension in a relationship. Not having enough money, working too many hours, a sick or dying relative, an abortion, etc. can all have a negative influence on a relationship.
