There is no other way for a woman to be awoman of admirable exploits unless she is ahousewife. Friedan paints the feminine woman ofthis time as having feelings of emptiness,non-existence and nothingness. She illustratesthese problems that women face by telling the readerthat the experts blame their feelings on the highereducation they have received before becoming ahousewife. All women are searching for is a humanidentity, a place where they belong without feelingempty. But the women before this generation foughtfor all the rights they have in the present, butthey are not using them. But how can one changethis dehumanizing aspect of the culture?Friedan portrays the idea of helping womenwith the feminine mystique that has gone on for morethan twenty years. This is not a small problem, buta national one that has effected the majority of thewomen in the United States. Friedan’s ideas rangefrom helping women get back into college andre-educate themselves, getting out into theworkforce. Therefore freeing themselves from thefeminine mystique. But this can only beaccomplished if the rest of the nation is alsoallowing of this change to happen. As the womenwant to alter their lifestyles, universities do notallow women to enter their university by notadmitting anyone who wants to further theireducation (graduate study) and part-time students. These rules bar women from entering to gainknowledge.
