ew Gatsby was neither a German Spy nor a murderer.Furthermore, at the end of the novel, when Daisy drove Gatsby's car and killed Mrs. Wilson in a car accident, Nick's first thought was the Gatsby killed Mrs. Wilson. But after Gatsby told him all of the things at that moment, Nick realized that his first thought was wrong and then made his own conclusion. Therefore, Nick was a thoughtful man and was not afraid to face anything around him. By these facts, he had a clear mind and was reliable in his observations, therefore proving that Nick Carroway was a neutral and clear-minded narrator of the novel. In the novel, Nick was also a neutral narrator because he described everything clearly and accurately. He was trustful because he described everything without involving his own personal opinion. Throughout the whole story, he doesn’t defend any characters or put any of his feelings in his observations. That's why he is a character who strived for neutrality. On the other hand, when Mr. Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy will leave Tom because she doesn’t love him anymore, Nick’s tone is full of emotion. " I've got something to tell you, old sport- " began Gatsby. But Daisy guessed at his intention. " Please don't!" she interrupted helplessly." Please let's all go home. Why don't we all go home?" " That's a good idea." I got up. " Come on, Tom. Nobody wants a drink." " I want to know what Mr. Gatsby has to tell me." " Your wife doesn't love you," said Gatsby. "She's never loved you. She loves me." At that time, if Nick was not in a neutral position and had to help Gatsby or Tom. But, he did not join in the argument between Gatsby and Tom. He just put himself in a corner, kept quiet and watched everything else that happened in the fight. Therefore, we can see that Nick was a neutral man and a na...
