Jack in his quest for power turns the boys againstRalph and tries to have him murdered. Ralph’s life is onlyspared by the coming of a navy ship, which saw the island onfire. He could hear them crashing in the undergrowth and on the left was the hot, bright thunder of fire. He forgot his wounds, his hunger, and thirst, and became fear; hopeless fear on flying feet...(199-200)This shows how heartless the kids were. They were doing allthey could to try to kill Ralph, just because Jack wanted tobe leader.The island is destroyed in Jack’s hunt for power. Jackin his quest has the boys set the island on fire in an attemptto smoke Ralph out. The destruction of the island shows theevils of Jack as an individual, because he would stop atnothing to gain total domination. Ironically, this quest fordomination is the event that leads to the rescue of the boys.Golding’s thesis is proven through the novel in theactions of one of the boys, Jack. In his quest for power anddomination Jack shows how evil a person can truly be. Heeventually turns on his friends and destroys the island. Inthis the thesis that an individual is evil is proven becauseit was the faults of one person that brought down the societyas a whole. ...
