Harper Lee was born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Huntingon College is where she first started her college eduacation in 1944 to1945. In 1945 she went to the University of Alabama to study law. She also attendedOxford University for a short time (“Lee,(Nelle) Harper”1).After quitting her job as a clerk with Eastern Airlines and BOAC in New YorkCity, Harper Lee concentrated on her writing. In1957 J.B. Lippincott Company lookedover a manuscript of a novel Lee had submitted. “She was told that her novel consisted ofa series of short stories strung together, and she was urged to remove it” (Harper LeeBiography”1). Then in 1960 a novel by the name of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Leewas published ( Harper Lee Biography”1). Ver quickly, this novel became “ one of thebest-loved classics of all times” (Preface to To Kill a Mockingbird” 1). To Kill aMockingbird also awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 (Pine,1). 2.TIME AND SETTINGTo Kill a Mockingbird was Haper Lee’s only novel, but she continued to writeessays and articles. Some of these articles included “ Love--In Other Words” in VogueMagazine and “Christmas to me” in McCall’s Magazine (Harper Lee Biography” 2). The movie takes place in a small Alabama town in the 1930’s, in which itsomewhat parallels Nelle Harper Lee’s life. In the outskirts of the town square is whereScout, Jem, and Dill play all day, while Atticus spends all day at the town courthouseworking on the Trial of the Century....
