Oak ridges Moraine TO SAVE OR NOT TO SAVE, THAT IS THE QUESTION 1.1 If current development proposals before York and Durham Regions are approved, 56 000 more people will live on the Moraine, 47 000 of whom will live outside existing settlements. 1.2 Damage and loss take other forms: garbage dumps, loss of natural habitat, air pollution and deforestation. 1.3 The “Big Pipe” is known as the solution to water supply and waste water management. 1.4 Save the Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition was formed in 1989 in response to increased developmental pressures on the Moraine. It is a non-profit organization, reflecting the goals and objectives of individuals and many member organizations. Their collective goal is the preservation of the Moraine’s unique and precious landform. 1.5 This important process is known as a recharge system.
