What part did politics play in the religious positions of the French leaders Politics played a major role in all of the religious positions of the French leaders. The most powerful families would control the top positions in the religion. For example the most powerful families in their religion would control the positions of high stature. The families that were involved in the religious issues of France were the Guise, Montmorency, and Bourbon. All of which had their strengths in different parts of France. Politics influenced religious positions in the nature the more power a family had the more influence was given for that family to obtain the religious position. Sometimes not even that, in some instances the families would follow the way of indulgences and buy a position into the religious court of France. In other ways religion would separate the classes of the state. Calvinism was appealing to the aristocrats and nobility due to rule of own territories and economic reason. The position that a Protestant would obtain would be usually higher than that of the Catholics due to the fact that Protestant were more dominate. Bibliography: none
