A Time to Kill

The novel that I an reviewing is entitled A Time to Kill by John Grisham. This is a very controversial story that takes place in a southern state where racism and the Ku Klux Klan are very big factors in the live of many inhabiting the small southern town. It tells the story of two white males who commit a sadistic crime by beating and raping a young black girl and leaving her for dead on the side of the road to die. After this hideous crime has been brought to the attention of her father, Carl Lee Hailey, he decides to take justice into his own hands and take the lives of the two men who vicously raped the young girl. The killing rook place in the couthouse and charges of first degree murder weree brought against Carl Lee Hailey. No one was willing to take the case except for a valorous man by the name of Jake Bragance decided to take the case. This is when the theme of the story starts to unfold.Thoughout the trial racism, prejudice, and much hate crimes were committed against the black people in the community and were inflicted upon the young lawyer and his family throughout the duration of the trial, Many people protest and stood for what they believed in. These groups included the hateful Ku Klux Klan and the people and the people who were rooting for Carl Leeand his family. The white-black subject was always a pending issue throughout the novel and through Grisham's wroting, he was very cogent in how racism is still a huge issue in the United States and how it is one of the biggest stains on the American fabric thoughout history. His message in the story basically promotes peace and how people should be accepted for the content of their character rather than the colour of their skin....
