The Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW), established in 1964, is an organisation of professional middle-class women. Membership is only open to women who have spent at least two years studying in a recognised university. Among the objectives of the organisation is the promotion of womens education at all levls and the involvement of women in every aspect of "national building" (Abdullah, 1993).
