gree with Madison in the idea that the Constitution tolerated parties but then created a system to absolutely limit their powers. Schattschneider made the point that the Constitution is both pro-party and anti-party at the same time. He wrote that Constitution established certain rights to the people, which in turn made the government tolerant of a party system. For example, he cited the right to organize as an example of a civil right guaranteed by the Constitution that helped in establishing a system of party tolerance. He also stated that the Constitution proved to be anti-party by establishing the complicated system of checks and balances, which eventually makes the parties ineffective. Schattschneider believed, as opposed to Madison’s view that political parties could be beneficial to the government and did not have to be controlled so much as to make them completely ineffective after all. In my opinion, the establishment of political parties has been a positive aspect of American political culture. I think that political parties are often controlled by majority vote, however the incorporation of political parties into the governmental system has helped in enforcing certain liberties guaranteed by the constitution, and limiting the rights of these parties would in turn limit the rights of the people....
