Newspapers, magazine articles and documentaries take about different issues involving welfare. They like to pinpoint different aspects of it all. Like trying to focus on how our employment system does not offer the right benefits and not paying enough for these parents to live and support their children. Children play a very important factor; they are the innocent and we, as American citizens should do anything to help them live a life full of necessities. Roaming through the newspapers, I seemed to have found many articles dealing with the issue of welfare. ARTICLE ONE: CHRIS DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT CALWORKS…but he does know not to ask for what he can’t have.This article focuses on children who are on welfare. Chris Helton a 9 year old boy of Stockton is a child of 3 who is on welfare. It talks about him, and the struggles of his family and how their lifestyle isn’t the best but it is something that they beginning forced to do. But all that is changing due to the to requirements of a new welfare system. The new welfare law will still pay for child care for the children while the mother while Kathy is at Job Club. This is where they learn to find a job by learning job skills. Even after she gets a job they will continue to pay for it if she doesn’t earn more than 75 percent of the state’s median income $17,094. How does CalWORKS work: Adults will face a five – year lifetime for receiving aid. They have 18 to 24 months to find work, once they finish a four week Job Club. After Job Club, adults must either get a job or demonstrate they are looking for one. If a job is not found by the 18 or 24 month deadline, adults must earn their welfare checks by working in “ community services “ jobs arranged by the county. Recipients who f...
