That's the same as one milligram of fluoride per liter – about one-quarter milligram per 8-ounce cup. There is ample evidence that fluoride is harmful to health: that is why it has been banned or discontinued in 21 European countries, Japan and Hawaii. A major report ordered by Congress in January 1990 from the U.S. government’s National Toxicological Program links fluoride with bone and mouth cancer, a rare form of liver cancer, and thyroid cancer. In his book Fluoride: The Aging Factor, Dr. Yiamouyiannis refers to a 1977 study that found 10,000 to 20,000 excess deaths were observed each year in fluoridated areas in the U.S. In Canada, Dr. Richard Foulkes, MD, former special advisor to the B.C. Minister of Health and now an internationally recognized authority on fluoride, recommended legislation in 1973 to make fluoridated water mandatory. Today, Dr. Foulkes no longer believes fluoridation is safe and effective. He has written to the B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons saying, ‘The issue now is approaching the point in the U.S., where it all started, of being exposed as a fraud. I feel that the professional organization should withdraw their support of the fluoridation of water supplies and do it quickly before they join others in history who refused to see and change.’ Fluoride has been linked in government and scientific reports to a wide range of harmful health effects, including: bone and tooth decay (including dental and skeletal fluorosis, bone pathology, arthritis, and osteoporosis) Alzheimer's, memory loss and other neurological impairment, kidney damage, cancer, genetic damage, and gastrointestinal problems. In addition, fluoride has been found to leach lead from old water pipes and soldering material, which has resulted in increased lead levels in people. Fluoride is not an essential nutrient. It has never received "FDA Approval". It is listed as an "unapproved new drug" by the FDA and as a “contaminant” by the EPA. Although calcium fluoride can occur naturally, the type of fluoride added to municipal water is a hazardous waste product of the aluminum industry, phosphate fertilizer industry, and other industries. Throughout the world, and from the beginning, virtually all living creatures have been exposed to fluoride. It's nothing new. Fluoride is one of the most abundant elements in the earth's crust - cumulative and toxic to all forms of life at remarkably low dosage. Sixty years ago U.S. dental researchers had identified areas in sixteen states where disfiguring mottled enamel was a serious problem. Thirty years ago, the World Health Organization had noted that high concentrations of fluoride are found in areas of every continent and that dental fluorosis is a problem from Finland to South Africa and from England to Japan. But fluoride affects more than just developing teeth. Even dinosaurs have ingested water and vegetation contaminated by fluoride from volcanic gases and ash - and suffered the consequence in terms of painful arthritic effects. Industrial mining and manufacturing, like mini-volcanoes, bring up fluorides from the earth into the biosphere, with similar effects on human communities. In the past century or so, man has spawned these "mini-volcanoes" without fully understanding the consequences. Modern well-drilling equipment has provided much needed water from deep within the earth - and this, too, has resulted in fluoride poisoning.
