Nutrition
Nutrition NUTRITION is the sum of processes by which an organism recieves nutrients from its environment, and uses them for its vital activities. NUTRIENTS are all substances that when eaten, digested and absorbed promote proper functioning of the body. Nutrients fall into the following categories: Protein, Carbohydrate, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, and Water. ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS are nutrients nessacary for life, that cannot be synthesised by the body. They must therefore be obtained through the diet. FOOD is any substance that provides one or more nutrients when eaten, digested and absorbed. BALANCED DIET is one that provides nothing in too less or great an ammount, and provides an adequate ammount of all nutrients. MALNUTRITION occurs when the diet supplies an incorrect ammount of one or more nutrients. NUTRITIONAL STATUS is the state of health produced by the balance between requirement and intake of nutrients. NUTRITIONAL ASSESMENT is investigation of nutritional status taking information from anthropometric and biochemical data, and personal dietary history. DIETITIAN is a person who applies nutritional assesment to groups or individuals, and their feeding patterns. Bibliography:
