Therefore, during the slave trade, if any African where to somehow become free (or a king for that matter) any wealth or power that they could accumulate would directly strengthen the vary system that was causing so much damage to their society. It was only after their colonization that the Africans began to "develop" or change their social structure and accordingly the economical structure influenced this change heavily, "they led with growing awareness to a new social consciousness, to a political awakening, to a rebirth of African culture and social confidence". Eventually all people were equal and the dividing line between king and commoner faded. This was the transition from a feudal society to that of a capitalist society. The fact that Africa changed into a capitalist society some 100 years after its own people catapulted the Europeans into a capitalist society, is a testament to the strangulation of the slave trade. This strangulation, or as Davidson says, "sterilizing hand" prevented Africa from maturing into a equal, well balanced society. Africa remained "sterile" till the strangling "hand" was removed, then (and only then) could Africa begin to develop. Even though slavery was a great detriment to African societies, it remains that it is one of the only tries that hold all Africans together; and therefore, it can be said that in the long run Africa has united as a result of slavery.In closing, it seems as though Africa went full circle. By this I mean that pre-Trans Atlantic slave trading Africa was much the same as post-Trans Atlantic slave trading Africa, with one exception, equality and unity. Despite all the set-backs and "damage" done to their societies Africans have persevered and over come their bonds. The amazing and significant fact is that Africans found a way to use the "bad card" they'd been dealt, in a way that eventually gave them the unity and equality they desperately needed and want...
