d that the land would be uninhabitable for 100 years, ground zero has been transformed into a peace park with beautiful greenery. Scientist have found that many plants naturally absorb metals from the ground and store them in their tissues. The potential benefits of this process seem to be gaining attention because it is much cheaper than conventional treatment approaches. As we approach the 21st century the basic needs of 5.5 billion human beings seriously threaten the earths life supporting environmental resources. Almost 11% of the earth surface, an approximate area the size of India and China has been exhausted by agriculture and other uses and we still cant feed all the people. Its estimated by the year 2050, water is projected to be in short supply for the 5.5 billion people. Looking at the current international issues and the conflicts are about land and natural resources mainly drinking water not oil. I myself think that the next world conflict will be about a diminishing natural resource. Today the greatest treats facing any nations security may not be military treat. Increasingly the complex issues related to the environment such as; population growth, water and food scarcity, pollution, and economic stability. Since the discovery of Atomic energy and nuclear weapons the world is very dangerous place. I think the lesson and destruction seen in Japan in the 1945 bombing triggered the world in this race to acquired nuclear technology. Japan wouldnt have surrended unconditionally without the use of force, but there was no need to demand the unconditional surrender. Ifwe had offered Japan the same kind of peace treaty, which we gave her we could have had a negotiated peace. We could have communicated with Japan through regular diplomatic channels, and explained to the Japanese that we didnt want to kill anybody and demonstrated the effects of the bomb.
