heir own. Hitler would utilize this new improvement in warfare in his blitzkrieg over and over again. The allies also adopted it for their own use. The allies used paratroopers in almost all major operations, including D-Day. Next came the German Blitzkrieg in France. On May 10, 1940 the Germans attacked Belgium and the Netherlands to surpass the Maginot line. However, the main attack came through the supposedly impassable Ardennes Forest. In two days, May 13 to 15, the Germans forced two crossings of the Meuse River and tore a 50 mile gap in the French front. On June 10, Italy entered the war on Germanys side and attacked France in the South. On June 14, the Germans entered Paris, and on June 22, France surrendered to Germany. All of Europe was now under German control, or German Allies control. They had taken Poland, France, Norway, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and the Balkans, all using blitzkrieg tactics. Nobody up to this point had ever had enough time to set up a defense to truly test the German Army, and Hitler's only way of war. By this point in the war, Hitler was so confident in his blitzkrieg tactics, that his next move was to use blitzkrieg tactics on Soviet Russia, and attempt an air blitzkrieg on Britain.By June of 1941 Hitlers confidence was booming. His blitzkrieg tactics had taken over all of Europe, except Britain, which was close to falling, in record time. So when Hitlers armies invaded Russia on June 22, 1941, he didnt expect it to take very long for Soviet Russia to fall. In the first week, German tanks swept 175 miles inside Russia. On June 27, the ancient city of Minsk fell. Along the Baltic coast tanks rolled towards Leningrad. In central Russia, two tank columns met at Kiev and closed a trap, which encircled six hundred thousand Russian soldiers.
