Great Depression1

For the United States, Japan, Europe, India, and others survivng was a struggle, but African Americans had it the worst. The main cause for the Great Depression was the combination of unequal distribution of waslth in the twenty’s. The rich and middle class thought they had it hard. They made between $2,500 and $100,000 a year. African Americans were making nothing. They were fed from who they were servants for, or what they grew themselves.“African Americans had two strikes against them-extreme finacial difficulties, which most whites had to deal with too. And also racial bigotry, which ensured that blacks usually did not receive their fair share of government relief.” (Bender, 75) African Americans were very mistreated and segregated. Nothing ever went correct for them. Most African Americans performed the same work alongside white workers, and received much less pay for it. They were the last to be hired and the first to be fired. Few African Americans took interest in education or self-improvement because of the disappointing experiences “that no matter how much they excercised their brains, there was a low ceiling on accomplishment for blacks in the white community, and there was no mixed community.” (Bender, 76)Opportunities for African Americans were difficult. All bisiness that they tried to set up failed. They were very limited in money and white bankers refused to loan money for black businesses. African Americans did what ever hey could with what they had, which was not much. Any business set up by African Americans were mainly for the black people, white people would not even come close to walking in one. Which leads me to talk about how this happened.The Great Depression came about when Wall Street stock market croashed in 1929.
