his excellent education and knowledge to compose his speech. “With this faith we will be able to work together, pray together, struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together knowing we will be free one day.” Dr. King uses repetition to his advantage throughout the speech. He uses the word “together” five times to drive his idea of unity. He wants his followers to stay together through good times and bad. “Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has written the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked ‘insufficient funds.’” Another technical device he uses is metaphors. He uses metaphors to relate his topic to the audience members’ lives. He shows the constitution by comparing it to a bad check. Martin Luther King, Jr. reached the audience through repetition and metaphoric expression. Together Martin Luther King, Jr.’s composition of his speech, optimism, and deliverance succeeded in moving a nation. Connecting with the audience, Dr. King inspired them with his message of hope. The speech was the main reason Martin Luther King, Jr. became part our history and is still venerated today....
