Five years later in 1889 Montana became a state. Although mining brought a lot of good to Montana, on the other hand it still left eyesores around the state. Even today there are areas in which the land is totally destroyed from over 100 years ago. This was mostly because of the major environment damage left by hydraulic mining.As a result of gold strikes around Helena, population grew. Furthermore, the increase of people helped Montana to become its own territory. Eventually, people began thinking of having their own state government in 1884. Five years later it became a state. Certainly these gold strikes made Montana what it is today. If these gold strikes didn’t happen would Helena even be here?...
