OdingaBackground: Oginga was educated at the Alliance High School and Makerere College in Uganda Oginga was a teacher before becoming an entrepreneur and later a politician Supported African Socialism and would essentially get support from the Soviet UnionHis ideals: Odinga questions independence and what it has done for the people of Kenya Odinga points his opposition at the people who are homeless as remaining the same position The Sessional Paper outline economic policy:- Private sectors- Cooperatives- State owned- The only radio in Kenya is supported by the government- Called the Kenya Broadcasting company- Major debate on the writers of the Sessional Papers- Papers contain valid arguments between capitalism and socialist The commonality among the private, private foreign, capital, and government is dispensed in these papers Kenyas economic plan:- Takes into account resources- Emphasis on agriculture- Government will not expand industry- Private ownership is key This plan could cause major damage because farming has dropped as a financial situation Financial concerns with Britain including an eighteen million pound loan with Britain There is a debate over to use force with England Joblessness, peasants, the starving, and land are all problematic in KenyaQuestions/Comments Uses economics to help bring his case close to home! Is this idea of using economics more effective to prove his points? Is his plan more effective than other leaders in Kenya? What other benefits did the Soviets give to Odinga other than financial? How did the fall of Communism effect Mr. Odinga?...
