The problems inflicted upon society towards the end of the prohibition era were much larger with the depression and stock market crash than alcohol abuse. Therefore, President Roosevelt quickly passed the 21st amendment repealing the 18th amendment’s ban on liquor. America experimented with prohibition, but came out as a nation free of thirsting for alcohol. Moral reformers, progressives, and most political officials argued that saloons and liquor were purging Americans to take part in deceiving acts. Alcohol was ruining the countries morality and effectiveness. The other side of temperance spoke out of violated liberties and freedoms and alcohol as an American past time. The prohibition movement caused more problems than when alcohol was legal resulting in the repeal of intoxicating liquors. Arguments arose by each sector of public opinion, but only one could come out on top to set the future of America. Healthy prohibition lost to the cumbersome idea of good times and alcohol.
