Or aren’t you rather treated over there as second class citizens?” (German 399) With these, the Germans tried to persuade the African-Americans that the U.S. was not treating them with respect and were not equal, but if they went to the German side they would be treated like average citizens. I feel it was a valiant effort for the Germans, but was not very productive.Although I feel the German propaganda may have done some to attract American soldiers, in my opinion American propaganda was much more persuasive. I feel this way, because the material and the way the American government used propaganda did more to restore patriotism in the lives of Americans. It also put fear into many Americans, with posters that showed a German soldier dragging away a child and taking her captive. This brought fear into the minds of many American parents and grandparents, to see that if the war came to America their beloved children and grandchildren could be taken hostage. This encouraged many men to join the army. On the other hand, Germany had tried its way of propaganda, which was not very effective. Even thought the pamphlets were written in English, many American soldiers still could not read all their information, specifically one of Germany’s main targets, the African-Americans, which made the pamphlets practically useless....
