Robert Manard Hutchins
Robert Manard Hutchins Q: Robert Maynard Hutchins once wrote " The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination by ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference and undernourishment." Some observers of contemporary American politics claim that Hutchins is right, that democracy is threatened by the indifference of people to public affairs. Do u agree? Support your opinion with evidence drawn from history, current events, or literature. The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination by ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference and undernourishment. This is a very important issue, because this subject of matter cannot happen with notice and hard planning. Therefore, democracy can collapse with the population becoming dying out. The state needs democracy. Such as, the United States is under the rule of democratic and republicans. This was a very good idea in cooperation from the public and their representatives. Without the democratic, the people would never listen and hate their country because they wouldn't feel the United States and the representatives are fair and reasonable. The government of the United States uses the thoughts of the public and makes their decision based on what the people want and what is best for the whole state and its people. The people all abide by the rules of the United States because they were really the ones to suggest these laws in the first place for more fairness. If the government had not listened to their people the whole system would collapse. Another example is the twisted story of the three little pigs. They were a family of pigs being set into the real world. They decide to go their own ways because they all wanted their own ways of life and living. One making a strawed house, another making a stick house and another making a house with leave all over and bamboo sticks. They all met up with a wolf and as you know he replies," I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down," and with that blows all the 3 houses down with no real good foundation because they had gone on their own. The 3 pigs all run away from the wolf getting away from him and decide to build a strong house together and cooperate with rules being staying inside the house, all locked up before the sun goes down. They all decided to go with the rules for their safety. One day the wolf came back and etc. and said again, " I'll huff and puff and blow your house down," and he blew and no matter how hard he blew their foundation was too strong and already locked in the house. Therefore with the laws, the public will listen for their own safety and understandment of the situations happening in this world. And if they do not go by with the rules, the state will be in chaos and confused. Later, as the days go by, eventually things start to break up. Not because they don't look for their safety but because people start to get lazy and decide there are far more important things than voting and suggesting comments about what they feel is going on today. Many people feel like they can trust the government without telling them their sides of views because they feel that the United States in democratic.. and to be democratic means the people are more important. Well, without their opinions, how could the government even know about what they think? For that, people must not be lazy and start opening up to what they really feel is going on, what isn't going on, and what should be going on… Democracy is threatened by the indifference of the people and their public affairs because if we just push everything aside and do what is necessary for our country, then we will never die out and we'll always be the democratic country that we are. So, make the right decision and say what you think and never back away because if you do, then without you even knowing it, the government ca turn their back, saying the public doesn't even care and do what is best for themselves. While the people are suffering and getting unequal chances at the things they should be getting… Bibliography:
